6 Kitchen Ingredients That Work Like Medicines

Last Updated: July 28, 2018 By Cheeky Team Member

Many common kitchen ingredients have a long history of being used for medicinal purposes far beyond their culinary uses. Due to economic factors and an increased interest in alternative healing processes, many are seeking out these sources of inexpensive healing. Honey, for example, is antibacterial. Topically it assists wound-healing. Ingesting it can be of benefit to cases of diarrhea and excess acid. Study shows that garlic protects the cardiac region and mitigates the potential of certain cancers, while also proving beneficial to osteoarthritis sufferers. Also antibacterial, lemon has been shown to aid with the control of hypertension. A useful skin-care adjunct, lemon assists in cases of eczema, poor elasticity, sunburn, acne and callouses. Cinnamon boosts immunity, while potentially lowering blood sugar and potentially protecting against Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Cancer and inflammation-fighting are also on the menu with two other kitchen heavies, specifically turmeric and ginger.

Key Takeaways:

  • The consumption of honey can fight the bacteria capable of creating digestive upset and causing diarrhea.
  • Study has shown that the regular consumption of garlic reduces the potential of developing lung cancer by 44%.
  • Lemon is an all-round useful skin-care ingredient, benefiting cases of acne, poor elasticity, callouses, eczema and sunburn.

“There is plenty of food from the kitchen that works like a medicine. There are those that can provide instant relief and there are those that can provide people with immunity through constant consumption.”
