Paracord: Everything You’ll Ever Need to Know

Paracord: Everything You’ll Ever Need to Know

Last Updated: September 8, 2018 By Cheeky Team Member

Paracord is a flexible, amazingly versatile and fantastically light weight braided nylon rope with many uses far beyond its original purpose in parachutes. In a wilderness situation, paracord can be used to make fishing gear or snares, or for shelter. You can also use it for splints or even automotive purposes. It can be purchased as a handy bracelet which can be un-wound over time as more paracord is needed. You can also unbraid/unravel the individual inner fibers of each strand of paracord.

Key Takeaways:

  • Paracord is a nylon rope that was first used in WWII to suspend parachute lines and today has many uses in survival type situations.
  • Known for its durability, paracord 550 can be used for fishing, tent set-up, or as a lanyard.
  • Many hikers and outdoor enthusiasts use paracord to make the popular survival bracelet, which can be unwoven and used in a variety of survival scenarios.

“The uses for 550 paracord are virtually endless. From clothing to furniture to tools and self-defense, there’s a project to fill just about any survival need you can imagine. It comes in so many colors, we can’t possibly name them all.”
