Survival Gardening: Cutting Costs

Last Updated: June 5, 2019 By Cheeky Team Member

Gardening can be very expensive but with a few tips it will make it more affordable. Take advantage of yard sales and pawn shops to purchase tools, estate sales are also great for this. Research the internet for fun and easy projects, and recycle or re purpose items such as milk jugs for planting containers. Mostly we need to think outside of the box, build our own platforms, and garden boxes, look through the classifieds for free items as well.

Key Takeaways:

  • You can use cardboard and newspaper for weed barriers in a garden.
  • Go to yard sales and re purpose items such as furniture, old bikes and many other items can be used as planters.
  • Using whatever we have on hand to meet our needs is a life skill we need to develop and it can start right in the garden.

“The “fugly” solutions can be of issue for some, although there’s usually a relatively inexpensive fix (just about anything can be painted and-or tied up in old Goodwill or yard sale sheets/curtains, or surrounded by old house paneling).”
