Last Updated: January 9, 2020 By Cheeky Team Member

There’s nothing more satisfying than empty your fridge of all your leftovers, throwing it into a dish, and adding mashed potatoes to it. You’ve just made a delicious shepherd’s pie. If you are the health conscious type, you can substitute cauliflower for mashed potatoes. Don’t eat meat? That’s okay. There is a delicious vegan option which calls for more veggies in place of the dish’s traditional beef or lamb. The average cook time for Shepherd’s Pie is just under an hour.

Key Takeaways:

  • Shepherd’s Pie was invented when people wanted to make a new meal out of leftovers.
  • Shepherd’s Pie contains lamb or beef, numerous vegetables coated in a sauce and topped off with mashed potatoes.
  • Mashed potatoes are the only ingredient one has to make without relying on leftovers.
